Telecommunications Connectivity Incorporated (TCI), a joint venture of the three largest telcos in the Philippines (DITO Telecommunity, Globe Telecom, and Smart Communications), debuted mobile number portability (MNP) on September 30, 2021.
MNP is a worldwide standard that lets mobile phone users maintain their numbers even if they switch networks or switch from a postpaid plan to a prepaid plan or vice versa. This is done for free.
The entire process of switching carriers can be done in as little as 48 hours, and that’s not counting the time it takes for the customer to pay any outstanding bills or receive their SIM card in the mail. Taking into account health and safety rules, the three telcos have put in place ways for customers to apply online and have their new SIM cards sent to their homes. Customers are encouraged to check the websites of their current mobile networks to find out how to apply for MNP (in-store or online) and to get a step-by-step guide to make porting easier.
Customers can also check the TCI Facebook Page (https://web.facebook.com/tcimnp) and the TCI website (www.tcimnp.com.ph) for answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs) about MNP.
TCI recently started the 09Forever Campaign on its Facebook and YouTube pages to spread more information about MNP and help customers learn more about the service. Switch networks if you want, but keep your number. With MNP, your number will always be the same.
